Dodgers News: Scott Alexander Placed on the IL; Caleb Ferguson Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed left-handed reliever Scott Alexander on the 10-day injured list with left forearm inflammation. Left-hander Caleb Ferguson was recalled to take Alexander’s place on the active roster.

Alexander’s trip to the injured list is retroactive to June 8 so he is eligible to be activated on Tuesday, June 18. It is unclear how long he is expected to be out.

Like most of the bullpen, Alexander has struggled this season. His K/9 fell by just below three from 7.64 in 2018 to 4.67 in 2019. His HR/9 also doubled this season from his career mark of 0.51 to 1.04. In 17 1/3 innings, he has posted a 3.63 ERA, 4.99 FIP, 4.60 xFIP, and -0.2 wins above replacement.

Ferguson also struggled early in the season before being placed on the injured list and getting sent to triple-A. During his time in the minors, he appeared to be turning his season around. In six innings for the Oklahoma City Dodgers, he allowed no runs on two hits, struck out 11 and walked two.

Ferguson was one of the Dodgers better relievers in 2018 so if he can return to that level, the bullpen would be getting a much-needed boost.
